    Cover Metcalfe Park, an underreported neighborhood on Milwaukee’s north side, as part of a grant-funded community journalism initiative. Report on the community impact of the closure of the neighborhood’s only full-service grocery store, including data-driven analysis of convenience store pricing disparities and crime trends related to grocery store closures using R and Google Sheets with visualizations in Flourish and Datawrapper. Produce community-focused reporting reaching more than 10,000 readers and drawing attention from city officials, and created the “Metcalfe Park Elders” series profiling neighborhood elders featured in the Sunday paper’s Inspiration section.

Investigative Fellow Howard Center for Investigative Journalism

    Investigated double brokering fraud in the trucking industry and hazardous materials transport via rail using various data sources. Investigated lobbyist exploitation of House ethics rules for privately funded congressional travel to influence legislators associated with the sugar industry.
